17th May 2017 - The Norwegian School of Málaga

We had a magnificent celebration of the Norwegian national day today! The childrens parade went through the streets of our own center, Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena. This for the second time after the school chose to move the event to the municipality where the school is situaded. With a significant increase in participants from last year, there was a beautiful parade, decorated with smiling children and accompanied by corps music.

The day started at the church, where the Norwegian Sailor Church came with a priest and a children's choir and gave a solemn launch on the national day celebration. The children's choir from the club 'Liv og røre' charmed with great engagement, and 'Las Campanitas' participated with their delicate beautiful voices. Afterwards, the students got ready so that the childrens parade could start. 

The municipality stopped all traffic in the main street through the center of Arroyo, as we usually do in Norway. It was awesome! At the forefront of the parade was Benalmádena's mayor, Victor Navas Perez and 'Integration Minister' Ana Scherman, together with the headmaster of the school, Bjarte Buen and the chairman of the board, Luica Palomar.

Speaches and songs

Outside Casa de la Cultura there was speaches and entertainment with students from our school. The headmaster and the mayor said some festive words, and a representative from the Spanish primary school who was invited to celebrate thanked for the invitation. It was last year student Linnea Östgård who spoke for the day on the stairs outside Casa de la Cultura today. A beautiful and important speech presented in both Norwegian and Spanish.

Anyone who wanted it could join the school after the childrens parade. The families gathered for a traditional celebration with lots of delicious food, cakes, ice cream and fun games. The parents' work committee (FAU) had really worked hard to get everything ready before the party! Newly planted flower beds with red, white and blue flowers, a lot of flags, red tablecloths and coffee tables were ready for the guest's entrance. Sausages and burgers were sold from the kiosk and from the grill, as well as ice and waffles. The tenth grade had baked cakes and sold cakes and jelly for income for their class trip They also held lottery with beautiful watches and sunglasses among the prizes. (Sponsored by Kathrine and G.
